Tasting Notes

The wine is deep purple-red in color, typical of this variety. Blackberry aromas are underscored by notes of ground white pepper, spices, and leather. Rich and mouthfilling, black currant and plum flavors explode on the palate, with spice, herbs, and a long, soft finish. The tannins are surprisingly smooth and silky for a wine with such body and flavor

In the Vineyard

This 2014 (oops) Carmenère was sourced from four different vineyards in four distinctive regions of the Valle Central of Chile. Vertical trellising was used to manage the canopy and develop intense color and flavor in the fruit. Quality corresponds to elevation at Chilcas, with reserva vines identified by a system of flags and markers at varying levels and vinified separately for creating the (oops) blends.

Winemaking Profile

The grapes for this blend were harvested and delivered to the winemaking facility where the clusters were gently destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. After fermentation, the young wine received a 14-day maceration (skin contact) for varietal complexity and refined, supple tannins. Fifty percent of the blend was aged in French and American oak barrels for eight months.

Food Pairing

This rich and weighty wine has appealing herbal and earth character, which pairs well with rustic foods such as grilled meats, like lamb and rosemary, braises, fish stews, burgers, hearty pastas, and soup.
